Wanted: Popcorn Ball Recipe

navy bbqLook at this sailor boy, isn't he cute? And hungry. This is my Godson, and I want to make him popcorn balls for Christmas.
Last year the others got his chewy stash before he even stepped off the plane. Not that hiding anything from his youngest brother does any good. The boy has a nose like a bloodhound.andyMy touch for making popcorn balls has flown the coop, and if I'm going to spend the week before Christmas with my hands in a vat of hot caramel, I need a good recipe.

I think using Jello is the easiest.
-Mix light corn syrup and sugar and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add red or green Jello. Stir until dissolved.
    -Have the popcorn ready:
Get rid of the seeds, keep warm, don't butter, lightly salting is okay, and a deep roasting pan is best.
-Pour the mixture over the popcorn. Use a wooden spoon to lightly toss.
-Let cool slightly because butter or gloves don't keep your hands from burning.
Lay out separately on non-stick surface.
I save a bit of mixture or melt caramels if decorating.

  2. Thanks, Dreading.
I always used caramel, but my mother made them with Jell-O. Think I'll give them a try and let you know how they turn out.

I've used one that calls for brown sugar and light syrup in the past, it's almost identical to this one I found on Vermont Living
